Many people are nervous before their first appointment with an Osteopath; unsure of what to expect or what they will have to do. The first thing that happens is we talk about why you are here – what your symptoms are, what you want from the session and what your goals are.
We spend as much time as you need to go through all your concerns. Then we will take a look. Generally we do not ask you to get undressed but do ask that you wear leggings and a loose top. We will start by looking at you standing to assess posture before asking you to lie down on the couch where we will have a feel of your muscles and joints. This shouldn’t be painful at all – we are just looking to see how the body is functioning in order to try and find the cause of your discomfort.
Following the assessment we will then discuss our findings with you – part of the recovery process is learning why you are in pain and what you can do to help alleviate it – knowledge is power! At this point we will make a plan together – what treatment is needed, what exercises you can do, what lifestyle changes you can make. The whole session is about you and what we can do together to get you feeling like you again.
On going sessions will involve gentle, yet effective osteopathic treatment to help you reach your goals.
Gemma is Brilliant! Very knowledgeable, advises on strengthening exercises and really feel much better after my appointment. See her regularly for a historic neck/shoulder problem and would definitely recommend her.
I want to thank you for having helped my baby to get to grips with breast feeding. Since we saw you for the second time there has been a marked improvement in his latch and feeding - he is no longer 'chomping' or using his jaw so aggressively and so it's now pain free for me and a really lovely experience. I really thought we were at the end of the line for getting breast feeding sorted and didn't hold out much hope for turning a corner but we have done and we have you to thank! I'm just sorry we didn't come to you sooner.
The session with Sally was amazing. Fred slept that night, and after two treatments, seemed so much more chilled out and relaxed. Peace at last!
