13 Dec 5 reasons parents should take up boxing
Boxing for parents
Boxing training is fast become a favourite option for a workout, with people swearing by the fat-burning workout to create strong physiques. Not only can boxing help produce a great body, it can also help balance the mind and improve mental health as Livestrong outlines. Here Matt Garcia, Total Boxer Founder gives 5 reasons new parents should take it up.
Perhaps one of the most obvious benefits of boxing training is the dramatic effect it has on the ability for the body to shed weight. Coupled with a healthy attitude to sleep and diet, boxing is perhaps the most effective full-body weight loss inducing training system available today. From skipping to punching heavy bags and coaches’ pads to sit-ups and circuits, boxing training is a total full-body work-out that will see the weight drop.
Boxing training combines both aerobic exercises that require oxygen to maintain energy, such as skipping, and explosive anaerobic exercises, like punching bags. As a result, the effect on the lungs, circulatory system and all over conditioning of the body, both inside and out, is positive, with significant improvements in stamina and body toning over time.
It’s common knowledge that exercise releases endorphins, or ‘feel good hormones’. Perhaps one of the less known benefits of boxing training is that, as a highly intense training system, the level of endorphins released is significantly more than in a less intense workout. In addition, improvements in concentration and confidence occur, not only due to the satisfaction of physical improvements and body image, but the building of mental strength, as a result of the focus on the more technical aspects required when developing boxing skills.
Develop new skills
Speaking of skills, you don’t have to hold the ambition of being a champion boxer to do boxing training, especially at Total Boxer. As the UK’s first ‘boutique boxing club’ in 2011, Total Boxer is where anyone can come and experience the amazing benefits of ‘real’ boxing training without the risk of getting punched in the face! Learning proper technique and improving these skills over time is challenging but extremely rewarding and provides, for most, a more engaging and fulfilling workout than just running on a treadmill or lifting weights.
It’s seriously fun
One of the most important reasons for new parents to consider boxing training, even beyond the mental and physical benefits, is that the training itself is just so much fun, especially in a friendly and supportive environment. The release of stress and tension hitting the bags, the rush of successfully learning a punching combination, the joy of training with a friend or partner cannot be overstated. If you need some joy in your life, even beyond that of your little bundle of joy, you need to head down to Total Boxer and experience it for yourself!
